About Us

Witchford is a thriving village about two miles west of Ely in Cambridgeshire. It has been around for a long time - there is an entry in the Domesday book, which you can read in Ely Museum. The community has a wide range of facilities - primary and secondary schools, churches, garage, shops and a restaurant. Many new houses have been built in recent years and the population has risen to well over 2000. Witchford Online was originally set up by the Parish Council in the nineties. A team of people was formed to create and maintain www.witchford.org.uk. When that gruop disbanded in 2001, a new site took up where the old one left off and we now aim to provide a source of community information for the people of the village. We are always looking for help to gather new content, writing web pages and so on. If you are interested in joining in please contact us via the form on this page.

Aerial Photos

The following pictures were kindly sent in by Stuart Braybrooke of Sutton Road. They were taken from a paramotor in March 2005. If you don’t know what a paramotor is, you’d better check out Stuart’s website at www.stuartbraybrooke.co.uk.

Witchford Bypass

These photos have been kindly sent to us by John Gothard, who took them during the building of the Witchford bypass - which must have been around 1990-91, I think. Maybe they will jog a few memories?

Ye Olde Witchford

Many years ago a young man by the name of W.T. Maskell produced a couple of books about Witchford:

RAF Witchford

During WWII there was a RAF bomber base on the outskirts of Witchford, at what is now Lancaster Way Business Park. The small museum is well worth a visit. Follow the external links below for further details of the museum and one of the squadrons losses during WWII:
